Upon receiving approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), GranuFlo, a dry acid concentrate, was indicated for the treatment of renal failure during dialysis. However, recent reports have established a casual relationship between GranuFlo and the development of several life-threatening cardiovascular complications. Patients receiving GranuFlo in association with sodium bicarbonate may increase their risk of developing metabolic alkalosis, which is a significant risk factor associated with adverse cardiac events. Those injured by this dialysis solution may receive substantial compensation by filing a New Jersey GranuFlo lawsuit.

New Jersey GranuFlo Lawsuit Overview
Fresenius Medical Care released GranuFlo onto the U.S. market in January 2008. Having already received approval from the FDA, GranuFlo was indicated to assist in the treatment of chronic and acute renal failure for those receiving dialysis. Administration of this dry acid concentrate helped remove harmful toxins from the blood that the kidneys were unable to. In addition, GranuFlo also reintroduced nutrients like sodium bicarbonate that were lost during the dialysis process.
Unfortunately, many clinicians may be unaware that GranuFlo provides patients with sodium bicarbonate. Therefore, often times, healthcare providers will inappropriately prescribe a subsequent dose of the chemical compound to balance existing pH levels. In doing so, improper prescriptions of GranuFlo are exposing patients to excessive and potentially dangerous amounts of sodium bicarbonate. Heightened levels of sodium bicarbonate may result in metabolic alkalosis, which is a significant risk factor for the following complications:
- Low blood pressure
- Cardiopulmonary arrest
- Cardiac arrhythmia
- Sudden heart attack
- Hemodialysis cardiopulmonary arrest
- Cardiopulmonary death
New Jersey GranuFlo lawyers are currently evaluating the link between this dialysis solution and the previously mentioned side effects. Furthermore, GranuFlo was the subject of a Class I recall earlier this year on March 29. As such, the following lots of GranuFlo were removed from the U.S. market because of their association with adverse cardiac events:
OFD1201-3B, OFD1251-3B, OFD2123-3B, OFD2201-38, OFD2220-3B, OFD2223-3B, OFD2225-3B, OFD2231-3 B, OFD2251-3B, OFD2301-3B, OFD2323-3 B, OFD2325-3B, OFD3201-3B, OFD3231-3B, OFD3251-3B, OFD3301-3B
If you or a loved one has been harmed after receiving this dry acid concentrate during dialysis, a New Jersey GranuFlo lawsuit may assist you in your pursuit of compensation.
